
WINE Intergroup for Natur and Economy
The Committee of the Regions Wine Intergroup for Nature and Economy – CoR WINE Intergroup – was constituted at the beginning of April 2025 on the initiative of Burgenland (as part of the Committee of the Regions - CoR) and represents the interests of the European wine sector. It is an association of the most important wine regions in Europe. The Intergroup is chaired by Burgenland – the Piedmont region acts as vice-chair.
In addition to the Austrian regions of Burgenland, Vienna and Lower Austria, the most important wine-growing regions in
- Spain (Andalusia, Basque Country, Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, La Rioja, Murcia, Valencia),
- Italy (Aosta Valley, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto as well as the provinces Barletta-Andria-Trani and Viterbo),
- Poland (Mozovia, Podkarpackie),
- Romania (Bistrița-Năsăud County, Constanța County),
- Czech Republic (South Moravian region),
- Germany (Rhineland Palatinate),
- Luxembourg (municipality Bettembourg) and
- Slovakia (Bratislava region)

Purpose and objectives of the interregional group
The aim of the WINE Intergroup is to ensure the long-term and successful development of viticulture and the wine industry in the wine-growing regions.
This includes
- supportive internal market rules for the wine industry
- appropriate EU environmental regulations (fertilisers, organic, packaging, etc.)
- possible cooperation with the Intergroup on Wine, Quality Foodstuffs and Spirits in the European Parliament
- preparation of a CoR opinion on the wine industry and wine culture
- possible initiation of a voluntary commitment by wine-growing regions through a ‘declaration’
- achieving a definition that the ‘substance alcohol’ is not equated with moderate wine consumption (cooperation with science)
- implementation of lighthouse projects: cooperation between wine-growing regions (best practice, sustainability, training, etc.)
Activities
JULY 2025
Roberto Ciambetti (Veneto, Italy) - member of the WINE Intergroup - will propose amendments to the Commission's proposal at the CoR plenary session on 2 July; Robert Hergovich will also speak during the plenary session.
MAI 2025
The proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2021/2115 and (EU) No 251/2014 as regards certain market rules and sectoral support measures in the wine sector and for aromatised wine products (16931/EU XXVIII.GP) is currently being discussed within this platform and demands are being addressed to the European Commission. - burgenland.orf.at
