Participation in municipal elections
 

  • Austrian and European Union citizens who can prove residence in Burgenland within the meaning of the Burgenland Municipal Election Regulation (Burgenländische Gemeindewahlordnung) 1992 are entitled to participate in municipal elections within the province. Voting rights encompass active and passive electoral rights in mayoral and municipal council elections. NB: non-Austrian EU citizens can stand for election to the municipal council, but not as mayor.
